The Harbor Oaks Community

Located in the Coastal Bend area of Aransas County, Harbor Oaks is noted for its quiet neighborhoods with three community “green” areas.

Most residents in the 200+ homes in the subdivision are permanent residents, resulting in a very desirable neighborhood atmosphere. A large percentage of the homes are situated on five large canals and Canoe Lake, leading into Little Bay. There are few vacant lots left in the subdivision.

Harbor Oaks boasts a marina and a private, gated boat dock for all residents. Harbor Oaks contains 12 apartments (“Villas”) and 40+ luxury condos (“Bay House”).

Crime Prevention

As we approach the holiday season we are reminded that we should remain vigilant and report suspicious activities in our neighborhoods. Larry Sinclair from the Rockport PD visited our board meeting last month and provided some information that I am sharing with you today. In addition to the material below you might check out www.crimereports.com. Enter rockport, texas in their search parameter and you can see where crimes have been reported as far back as 60 days. You will be pleased to learn that Harbor Oaks has a very low density of crimes reported.

Please enjoy the holidays but remain alert for, and report, suspicious activity.

Charles Powers, President HOPOA

Reporting Suspicious Activity

Keep emergency numbers near so you can quickly report any suspicious activity or emergency. The number for a true emergency is 911. The number to report non-emergency, suspicious activity is 729-1111. Anything that seems slightly "out of place" or out of the ordinary could be criminal activity. Be on the lookout for the following:

Unusual sounds such as screams, shouts or barking dogs. Look outside when you are awakened at night by strange noises.

Anyone going door to door, looking in windows and parked cars. It could be a burglar.

Unknown persons in your neighborhood. Never open your door to anyone you do not know. Verify who they are and why they were sent to your home.

Property being taken from a business or home. You could be witnessing a burglary.

A parked or slow moving vehicle with no apparent destination or lights. This could be a thief.

Anyone being forced into a vehicle, or a stranger talking to a child. You could be witnessing an abduction. Call 911

To report suspicious activity...

Call your local law enforcement agency's non-emergency number,  729-1111  in non life threatening situations.

You will be asked:

  • What type of incident is it?
  • Is the crime still in progress?
  • Where is the crime located?
  • How many suspects are there? Are they armed?

The arriving officer will ask:

  • What time did you leave? What time did you return?
  • What did you see?
  • Have you talked to anyone? If so, did they see or hear anything?
  • Can you describe the suspect's age, sex, race, height, weight, hair, eye color, clothing, voice and unusual marks?
  • Can you describe the vehicle's make year, model, body style and identifying features, dents, decals, etc?
